BAYSIDE, QUEENS — Baysiders will no longer have a local Walgreens come mid-February.

The pharmacy chain is closing its sole Bayside outpost, located at 39-20 Bell Boulevard, on Feb. 15, a spokesperson confirmed with Patch.

This "difficult decision" came after considering the "dynamics of the local market and changing buying habits of our customers," the spokesperson said.

Walgreens however, is planning to automatically transfer prescription files to other "nearby" stores, the spokesperson said, adding "pharmacy patients will receive a letter in the mail providing more information about their prescription records."

There are several other Walgreens outposts in northeast Queens, including stores in Clearview, Auburndale, and Oakland Gardens.

The Walgreens spokesperson did not respond to Patch's inquiry as to what will happen to the building on Bell Boulevard, which was previously a Rite Aid.

Permits for demolition or new buildings haven't been filed at the location as of Jan. 20, Patch found.

News of the closure comes after Rite Aid announced it was closing halving its number of stores in Astoria, Patch reported.
