5 Things You Should Know This Week

Bed-Stuy Patch brings you a list of 5 reasons to love Mondays

It’s Monday, but no worries! Bed-Stuy Patch has assembled a list of a few things you should know to jumpstart your week:

1. Monday, May 7, at 7:00 p.m., Community Board 3 will hold its monthly meeting for the month of May.  All Bedford-Stuyvesant residents are invited. Receive committee updates and find out what’s to come for residents in the months ahead. CB3 meetings are the first Monday of each month, 7:00 p.m. in the basement level of Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Street.

2. Are you tired of going to events and wondering if the person who's got your eye is single? This is the ultimate singles event so leave your coupled, married and "its complicated" friends at home. Come out and  If you decide you want to be MATCHed the Geneva Agency’s coordinators will be on site at Therapy Wine bar on Monday, May 7, 364 Lewis Avenue at 6:30 p.m. $35.

You will learn: *How to get that newborn to sleep and get yourself some shut-eye too! *What all the new car seat regulations are, AND get your own child's car seat installed! *How to get that baby weight off. *How to prepare healthy food for your baby or toddler *How to find, interview, and check references for a caregiver or baby nurse… and much much more! Even takes place at 464 Bergen Street, 12:30 p.m. Buy tickets here.

4. In 1892, H.T. Burleigh became one of the first African-American students admitted into the National Conservatory of Music in New York City. The spirituals he sang inspired the Conservatory’s visiting director, Antonín Dvořák, to write several masterpieces based on American themes, and to envision a rich and unique future for American music. Now, the Brooklyn Phil Chamber Players team up with poet Tyehimba Jess in a concert that imagines these artists’ lives and stories, spinning out the legacy of this first link between African-American music and the symphonic tradition at the Chamber Concert: Spirituals, Rags and Strings, Wednesday, May 9, 6:30 p.m. The event is free.
