Bed-Stuy 'Affordable' Apartments Require $51K, $78K Salary

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — Dozens of apartments have hit the affordable housing lottery in Bed-Stuy, but only for those making at least $50,709 per year, records show.

The nearly 60 apartments are found in a new building on Little Nassau Street known as "Rose Castle" and include options for those making 70, 90 or 130 percent of the area median income.

At the 70-percent income level, that means apartments will go to those making at least $50,709 per year for a one-bedroom or $60,652 per year for a two-bedroom.

There are five one-bedroom spots and eight two-bedroom apartments available at that income bracket, records show.

At the 90-percent level, applicants should make at least $65,349 a year for a one-bedroom spot and $78,206 a year for a two-bedroom apartment. Eight one-bedrooms and six two-bedrooms are up for grabs at those prices, records show.

At the 130-percent level, applicants should make $78,172 a year for a one-bedroom and $86,400 for a two-bedroom, according to the listing.

The Rose Castle development is pet-friendly and includes electric car charging stations, a shared laundry room, a gym and bike storage lockers. The applications for the complex will be open until Feb. 16.

It is one of several Brooklyn buildings on the affordable housing lottery.

Developments also include a Kent Street building in Greenpoint, a Himrod Street building known as "Glassworks" and another Greenpoint building on Broadway, records show.
