Unarmed Bed-Stuy Bank Robber Makes Off With Nearly $10,000, Police Say

The man presented two notes demanding money — but no gun — to a teller at the Carver Federal Savings Bank on Fulton, according to the NYPD.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — Police are looking for an alleged bank robber (pictured above) who is suspected of stealing $9,750 from Bed-Stuy's Carver Federal Savings Bank.

The suspect entered the bank, located at 1392 Fulton St., just before noon Tuesday and passed two notes to a teller demanding money, according to the NYPD.

"No gun was displayed," a police spokesperson told Patch.

Still, the teller handed over nearly $10,000, according to the NYPD.

The suspect then fled the scene, traveling east on Fulton Street, police said.

Detectives described the suspect as a black man around 50 years old. He was last scene wearing a dark-colored hooded coat, police said.

This alleged robbery took place in the NYPD's 79th Precinct, which covers the western half of Bed-Stuy. According to police statistics, through March 20, major crimes were collectively down about 5 percent compared to the same period last year.

A total of 55 robberies and 71 grand larcenies were reported during that period, compared to 59 robberies and 84 grand larcenies during the same time frame in 2015, according to police data.
