Bed-Stuy Tenants Seek To Hold Landlord In Contempt: Report
The tenants plan to hold their landlord and management accountable for what they call failed attempts at court-ordered fixes.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — Tenants are seeking for a court to hold their landlord and management company in contempt for failing to make crucial repairs, despite orders from a Brooklyn judge, a report says.
Back in February, the management company and landlords of 25 MacDonough St. were given a court order to correct a slew of housing violations — with some tenants saying they haven't had cooking gas in years, according to Brooklyn Paper.
In June, the court ordered the owners to pay $250 per day as long as the violations remained open, on top of the $300,000 they already owe in city housing fines, and to reduce the tenants rent, writes Brooklyn paper.

Tenants told Brooklyn Paper that no changes have been made.
“I have no working stove and have had no gas service for three years since the entire building’s gas service was disconnected by National Grid in October of 2018 because of a gas leak in the building’s basement,” tenant Lorna Holder told Brooklyn Paper, "the heat has been non-existent or inadequate since the beginning of the heat season as it is every year.”

The city attempted to foreclose on the property in 2017 and put it under ownership of a nonprofit through its notorious third-party transfer program, but a court overruled the move and returned it to the seemingly neglectful owners, according to Brooklyn Paper.
Brooklyn Paper also reported the building has over 207 open violations with the city's housing agency.
