Bed-Stuy Victims Of Deed Theft Hold Strategy Session
Equality for Flatbush is hosting Sunday's deed theft strategy session, and serving dinner

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — Deed theft is still rampant in New York City, with numerous families in Bed-Stuy affected in recent months.
Some of those families are inviting neighbors to join them for a strategy forum and skill-sharing event hosted by Equality for Flatbush, held near Flatbush Junction (RSVP below for the exact address).
Organizer Imani Henry told Patch that before the pandemic, Equality for Flatbush would hold events like this all the time, serving as a support group for nearly 70 families.

"So many people's lives are being destroyed," Henry said, "by predatory lawyers and their greed."
Henry says he hopes people will attend to learn about not just the upcoming campaigns but also to help in "strategizing about some community interventions and how to hold these predators accountable," he said.

Henry added that Equality for Flatbush hopes more victims of deed theft will come forward, since many victims are afraid or ashamed that they did something wrong. Already, he said, young people are recognizing the threats to their family homes and are getting more involved.
"People's first and foremost concern is their own family," Henry said, "and how their family's gotta make it. Can they keep their home in Bed-Stuy or East Flatbush, or wherever?"
The deed theft forum will be on Sunday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and includes dinner. Equality for Flatbush also asks that people to take a COVID test before attending.
