Bed-Stuy's 'Dept Of Culture' Named One Of 2022's Best New Restaurants

NEW YORK CITY — An unassuming new Bed-Stuy eatery's big flavors earned it a coveted spot on a prestigious culinary ranking.
Dept of Culture is one of Eater's "Best New Restaurants 2022," according to the food site.
The Nostrand Avenue spot specializing in Nigerian cuisine is New York City's sole eatery on the 15-restaurant list.

And Dept of Culture gave plenty for an Eater food writer to rhapsodize about, from its Nigerian pepper and fish soup to its intimate space.
"With family pictures on the walls, old records spinning lively beats, and BYO bottles in the fridge, Dept of Culture feels more like a home than one of Brooklyn’s hottest restaurants," the entry states.

The restaurant showcases north-central Nigerian cooking by Chef Ayo Balogun.
Seatings are only open Wednesday through Saturday at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. each day, and reservations appear largely (but not entirely) booked for weeks.
