Boy, 13, Struck And Killed By Oil Truck In Bed-Stuy: Cops

The driver of the oil truck was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT, NY — A 13-year-old boy was struck and killed by an oil truck on Lewis Avenue in Bed-Stuy Friday evening, the NYPD said.

Police responded to a report of a collision at the intersection of Lewis Avenue and Jefferson Avenue around 5:50 p.m. A 13-year-old boy was found at the scene with severe trauma to the head. He was transported to Interfaith Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Mack oil truck was traveling northbound on Lewis Avenue. The truck hit the boy as it made a right on Jefferson Avenue, police said.

The boy was identified as Kevin Flores, 13, of Ridgewood.

The driver of the oil truck, 28-year-old Philip Monfoletto, of Deer Park, remained at the scene and was taken into custody. He was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.
