Brooklyn Street Shooting: 1 Killed, 2 Injured in Brownsville

Just after sundown on Thursday night.

A shooting in front of a four-story apartment building in Brownsville — just a few lots away from the busy, commercial intersection of Saratoga and Livonia avenues — claimed one 21-year-old’s life on Thursday night, according to police.

Two other men, aged 18 and 20, were hit in the arm during the shooting and are now in stable condition at nearby Brookdale Hospital, police say.

The NYPD was notified of the shooting via Shot Spotter, a detection system that picks up the sound of gunfire on its microphone-like sensors and sends geodata back to the nearest police precinct. The system was only unveiled a few months ago, in March.

On Thursday night, ShotSpotter sent police to 807 Saratoga Avenue in Brownsville around 8:15 p.m. — where they say they found the three young shooting victims on the ground.

“There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing,” the NYPD says in a statement.

Police are still withholding the identity of the young man who died, pending “proper family notification.”

However, a few different Brooklyn residents on Twitter are referring to the deceased as “Zay.”
