Latrice Walker Declared Winner In Brooklyn's 55th Assembly Race
Assemblymember Latrice Walker, first elected in 2015, received 90 percent of the vote on primary day, results show.

BED-STUY, BROOKLYN — Assemblymember Latrice Walker has been declared a winner in the 55th District primary race, all but securing another term representing the Brooklyn district, according to NY1.
Walker, who has been in office since 2015, held about 90 percent of the vote with nearly all of precincts reporting, according to unofficial results from the city's Board of Elections. The race was called in her favor by NY1 on Wednesday morning.
"Thank you to my beloved constituents who turned out and delivered me a resounding victory in the primary on Tuesday," Walker wrote late Tuesday night. "I will continue to work hard on your behalf in the district and in Albany."

Walker's opponent, Tracey Cashaw, had received around 9 percent of the vote, according to the unofficial results.
The 55th District includes an eastern portion of Bed-Stuy as well as parts of Crown Heights and Brownsville.

The incumbent assembly member is most well known as an architect of the state's bail reform laws, which she went on a hunger strike to protect from revisions earlier this year. Before becoming an assembly member, Walker worked as a lawyer representing tenants facing eviction, people targeted by stop-and-frisk and as legal counsel to U.S. Rep. Yvette Clarke.
Not much is known about Cashaw, who does not have a campaign website or social media presence. Records show she lives in Brownsville.
The assembly races will be the only district-level primaries held on June 28 given an ongoing court battle over redistricting maps. Both the congressional and state senate races in New York have been postponed to August 23 due to the redistricting.
Also in Bed-Stuy, first-term incumbent Assemblymember Phara Souffrant Forrest declared victory in the 57th District, which includes a small portion of western Bed-Stuy along with Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
The 56th District did not appear on the ballot Tuesday given that Democratic incumbent Assemblymember Stefani Zinerman ran unopposed.
In the statewide races, Governor Kathy Hochul cinched the Democratic nominee, according to unofficial results.
