Deadly BK House Fire: Woman Charged With Murder, Arson

Vetus Roberts, 70, died in the May 24 house fire that was intentionally set by Jennifer Rochard, police said.

BED-STUY, NY — A 70-year-old man was killed in Bed-Stuy Friday after a woman intentionally set a fire in an apartment building, police said.

Vetus Roberts was found unconscious and unresponsive in a bedroom after FDNY firefighters extinguished a fire at 371 Monroe Street at 11:15 p.m., police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined Jennifer Rochard, 65, had set the fire, and has since been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree arson, police said.
