What: Beatrockers and Hardknockers

When/Where: Saturday, April 23, 10:30 pm – 3:00 am DROM NYC, 85 Avenue A bet 5th & 6th Sts, New York, NY

Why Go: This will be one of the premiere beatboxing events in NYC. Proceeds of Beatrockers & Hardknockers go to support Brooklyn-based non-profit community program Project Safe. A showcase of some of NYC's premiere beatbox artists including Chesney Snow, Taylor McFerrin, Masai Electro, and the Legendary Human Orchestra Kenny Muhammad, along with some of the region’s best beatboxers, including Seme Rock from Connecticut, the Hornitz from Boston and Steven Foxx from New Jersey. Also joining this impressive line up of top beatboxing talent are Grammy Winning singer/songwriter Maya Azucena, Alyson Greenfield, violinist Sis on Strings, bassist and composer Colin Dean, saxophonist and composer Sean Nowell. Why Go: "Men That Cook" is a charitable fundraiser in support of The Brooklyn Prom & Scholarship Project.  The event is being sponsored and hosted by WeMakeUsBetter.  Proceeds from this event will be used for prom tuxedo rentals for high school seniors in Brooklyn. Come out and sample a variety of good food, network and socialize all while supporting a great cause.

Why Go: Sioux Artist Ina McNeil teaches Native American quilt designs including the eight pointed star, for adults.

What: The Scott Sisters Speak in Brooklyn

When/Where: Saturday, April 23, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Restoration Plaza, 1368 Fulton Avenue, in the multi-purpose room

Why Go: The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement and the National Conference of Black Lawyers will host a community forum and call to action. The attorney for the Scott Sisters, Chokwe Lumumba will speak on the current situation of the campaign for their full release. Jamie and Gladys Scott will be teleconferenced in live to talk about their case as well as their ongoing commitment to help others with similar cases.  Other panelists will include: Michael Tarif Warren, Marc Lamont Hill, April Silver, and Rukia Lumumba.
