WHAT: Pet Grooming Strong Kids Fundraiser

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, May 5, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Bed-Stuy YMCA, 1121 Bedford Avenue

WHY GO: Come get your pet “primped” for a good cause at the YMCA.  All proceeds go the Strong Kinds Campaign. Large dogs (8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.) Small dogs and cats (1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.). Owners must show proof of rabies vaccinations; all dogs must be over 4 months old.

WHAT: Bed-Stuy Community Food Walking Tour

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, May 5, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., St. John’s Bread and Life - 795 Lexington Avenue

WHY GO: CIBS is pleased to announce the partnership with the Municipal Art Society (MAS) to co-host Bed-Stuy Community Food Walk, a series of free neighborhood ‘walks’ hosted and guided by local residents, urban enthusiasts and others who care deeply about their neighborhoods and cities. Come spend the morning with Bed-Stuy community advocates, organizers and neighbors to learn more about the bountiful food and garden resources in our community! Hosts are Patricia Magnuson, North East Brooklyn Housing Development Corp (NEBHDCo) and Morgan Munsey, Brownstoners of Bedford-Stuyvesant.

WHAT: Target First Saturdays: “Connecting Cultures”

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, May 4, 5:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.

WHY GO: There’s something for EVERYONE; the entire family! One of this month’s featured acts is: Forces of Nature Dance Theatre, presenting original pieces that blend dance forms including modern, traditional West African, ballet, and house. Presented in partnership with BAM Dance Africa. Free timed tickets available at the Visitor Center at 5 p.m. Also, Brown Rice Family serves up a fusion of jazz, Afrobeat, reggae, rock, Latin, hip-hop, and funk, with DJ sounds provided by Cocody Productions' Jake Bright, aka DJake.

HOW MUCH: Free. Parking is a flat rate of $4 starting at 5 p.m

 

WHAT: Weeksville Heritage Center Presents “Bring in the Spring”

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, May 5, 12:00 p.m., Weeksville Heritage Center, 1698 Bergen Street, Bklyn, NY

WHY GO: Weeksville Heritage Center presents “Bring in the Spring,” a free, family-friendly open house. The afternoon will feature tours of the historic houses, a preview of summer programming, garden games, skill shares and demos, seedling give-aways, arts workshops, music by ManchildBlack, food provided by Brooklyn Moon Café, free samples from HappyFamily and  Jakada Juice.
