Police Blotter: A shooting, Two Robberies and a Larceny

A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 79th Precinct

The 79 Precinct experienced a 13 percent decrease in overall crime last week (41 incidents vs 47 incidents), compared to this same time period last year. For the month, the precinct is reporting a 3 percent overall decrease in crime (172 incidents vs 177 incidents), compared to this same 28-day period last year.

Larceny:  

On Tuesday, July 12th at approximately 2:20am an 18-year-old man reported he was approached from behind and had his handbag stolen from his hand. The male perpetrator fled into 85 Tompkins Avenue where he was not apprehended. The bag contained miscellaneous personal items.

Robberies:  

On Friday, July 15, at approximately 5:00am, a 25-year-old man was walking down Myrtle Avenue near Marcy Avenue when two males, both black and approximately 18 years old, forcibly took his leather bag and an iPod.

On Sunday, July 17, at approximately 5:20pm, 27-year-old female was robbed at the corner of Classon and Franklin Avenues. An unknown black male, approximately 25 years old, punched the victim in the face and attempted to remove her cell phone. The male was unsuccessful and fled in an unknown direction.     

Shooting:    

On Sunday, July 17, at approximately 12:20am, two people were shot, an 18-year-old male and a 21-year-old female, at the corner of Tompkins Avenue and Halsey Street. Both victims were transported to the hospital. The gun shot wounds were not fatal. The motive for this shooting is still unclear and is actively being investigated by the 79th Pct Detective Squad.
