Police Blotter: Cops Catch Four Thugs Wanted for Robbery

A weekly roundup of crime activity in 79th Precinct

Crime is down 9 percent in the 79th Precinct for the week of January 16 - January 22 (31 incidents, versus 34 incidents), compared to this same week in 2011. For the month, crime is up 15 percent (129 incidents, versus 112), compared to this same 28-day period last year. Year to date, crime is up 10 percent (100 total incidents, versus 91 incidents), compared to this same time period in 2011.

Four Robberies:

On Sunday, January 22, at approximately 4:00 a.m., a man was robbed walking into his residence on Putnam Avenue. According to the police report, the man, 23, was entering his residence on Putnam Avenue near Nostrand Avenue, when another man, described only as a black male, threw him to the floor, went through his pockets and removed credit cards and cash. The perpetrator then fled in an unknown direction. No arrests have been made, and the incident is under investigation.

On Wednesday, January 25, at approximately 8:20 a.m., a woman was robbed at gunpoint on Flushing Avenue. According to the police report, the woman, 24, was walking in front of 534 Flushing when two unknown teens, described as black males, approximately 17 years old, approached the victim. One one displayed a small black gun, while the other took her handbag. Both perpetrators fled into the Marcy Houses. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

On Thursday, January 26, at approximately 7:50 p.m., man was robbed on Vernon Avenue. According to the police report, the victim, 28, was walking along Vernon Avenue near Marcy Avenue when he was approached by three black males between the ages of 18 and 21. The victim reported that the three men surrounded him and demanded money. When the victim answered that he didn't have any money, all three began to physically assault him and then fled east on Vernon Avenue. NYPD canvassed the neighborhood, according to the victim's description and were able to apprehend and arrest all 3 perpetrators on Marcus Garvey Boulevard and Willoughby Avenue. All were charged with robbery.

On Friday, January 27, at approximately 8:45 p.m., a man was robbed of his iPhone on Fulton Street. According to the police report, the victim, 22, was walking along Fulton Street near Kingston Avenue when an unknown man, black, 20 years old, approached him and slapped him and then stole his iPhone. The perpetrator fled west on Fulton Street. NYPD were able to catch up to the thug and arrested him on Fulton Street. He was charged with robbery.
