Police Blotter: Three Robberies and one Assault
A weekly roundup of crime activity in the 79th Precinct
Crime is down 14 percent in the 79th Precinct (25 incidents versus 29 incidents), for the week of January 9 – January 15, compared to this same week in 2011. For the month, crime is up 27 percent (132 incidents versus 104 incidents) for this same 28-day period in 2011. Year to date, crime is up 21 percent (69 incidents versus 57 incidents), compare to this same time period last year.
3 Robberies and One Assault:
On Sunday, January 15, at approximately 11:23 p.m., a woman was robbed while entering the Bedford-Lafayette train station. According to the woman’s report, she was just about to walk into the train entrance when she noticed a man, described as a black male, around 25 years old, 5-foot-9 and approximately 160 pounds on a bicycle watching her and her friend. When the two entered the station, the man approached them, displayed a silver revolver and said, “Give me your bag,” and “Give me your phone.” The perpetrator then fled with the woman’s items. Police are looking for the perpetrator, and the investigation is ongoing.

On Friday, January 20, at approximately 11:50 p.m., a man was threatened and assaulted while walking on Arlington Place near Halsey Street. According to the report, the victim was walking along Arlington Place, when someone grabbed him from behind. The perpetrator, described as a black male, approximately 17, 5-foot-eleven, 185 pounds and dark eyes, said "Give it up," while simulating a firearm from inside of his jacket. The perpetrator then fled south on Arlington Place. The investigation is ongoing.
On Sunday, January 22, at approximately 3:47 p.m., a man was robbed of his iPhone on Throop Avenue. According to the victim, he was walking in front of 613 Throop Avenue when he was approached by a man, described as black and unknown to him, who asked for the time. The perpetrator then displayed a silver gun and pointed it at his head and demanded his iPhone. The perpetrator made away with the victim’s iPhone and headphones.

On Sunday, January 22, at approximately 6:15 p.m., a woman was robbed of a knife at knifepoint. According to the police report, the woman said she was walking in front of 595 Classon Avenue, when she was grabbed from behind by an unknown male who then held a knife to her neck, and then grabbed a knife from victim's coat pocket. The investigation is ongoing.

Correction 1/25/12 7:00am: The Friday, January 20th incident is also a robbery. NYPD has informed us that the perpetrator did flee with the victim's personal itmes.
