Police Blotter: Woman's Wallet Stolen at McDonald's

Crime is down 16 percent in the 79th Precinct (38 incidents versus 45 incidents), for the week of May 7 – May 13, compared to this same week in 2011. For the month, crime is up 7 percent (158 incidents versus 148 incidents) compared to this same 28-day period in 2011. Year to date, crime is up 18 percent (653 incidents versus 554 incidents), compared to this same time period in 2011.
3 Robberies:
On Monday, May 14, at approximately 10:10 a.m., a man was robbed of his cell phone while walking down Lafayette Avenue. According to police reports, the man was walking toward the train station while talking on his cell phone when a man identified as Tashaun Smith, 22, walked up to him, pointed a gun at him and stated, “Give me your phone.” The victim then got into a physical altercation with the perpetrator, causing bruises and lacerations to the victim’s face. The victim identified the thief to police and he was arrested at the scene. The victim’s property was recovered.

On Tuesday, May 15, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a 19-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint of her cell phone on Myrtle Avenue. According to police, the woman was walking down Myrtle near Tompkins Avenue when an unknown man approached her from behind and pointed an unknown object to the right side of her head. The suspect then stated, “Give me what’s in your pockets.” He then reached into her right sweat shirt pocket and removed her iPhone and her iPod before fleeing. She said she did not see suspect’s face. Police arrived on the scene and canvassed the area, but returned negative results. The investigation is ongoing.
On Thursday, May 17, at approximately 12:10 p.m., a 28-year-old woman says her wallet was stolen from McDonald’s on Fulton Street. According to the police report, the woman laid her wallet containing $520 on the counter and an unknown person picked it up while she was not looking. Police canvassed the area and reviewed the cameras but were unable to make an identification because of an extreme sun glare. The investigation is ongoing.
