Police Shoot Robbery Suspect on Reid and Putnam Avenues

The suspect was taken to Kings County Hospital and is listed in stable condition

A police officer shot a robbery suspect this morning near Reid and Putnam Avenues in Brooklyn, according to authorities.

The incident unfolded at approximately 4:00 in the morning, after a man who had just been robbed flagged down two police officers during their routine patrol of the area.

The robbery victim identified a 34-year-old man. The victim told cops at the scene that moments earlier, the suspect brandished a gun and robbed him.

The police officers exited the vehicle and told the robbery suspect to get down. After the suspect refused to comply with police orders, the suspect reached toward his belt, according to authorities, and one of the cops shot him. The bullet pierced his right leg and then exited through his left leg. There was no gun found on the suspect.

The suspect was then taken to Kings County Hospital and is listed in stable condition. The officer also was transported to Kings County Hospital for trauma.

According to officers, the robbery suspect had been arrested more than two dozen times, five for robbery.

The investigation is ongoing.
