Weekend Traffic Advisory: Street Closures for February 24 - 26

The New York City Police Department today announces street closures and anticipated traffic delays for the weekend February 24, 25, 26, 2012.   in the following areas:

The following events may have a significant impact on the flow of traffic. Drivers should expect delays in the areas indicated:

MANHATTAN

Thursday, January 19th through Monday, February 27th

MERCEDES BENZ FASHION WEEK-LOAD IN/OUT

Closure: West 62nd Street between Columbus & Amsterdam Avenues (Intermittent)

West 65th Street on the North; West 60th Street on the South;

Columbus Avenue/ 9th Avenue on the East; Amsterdam Avenue on the West (All inclusive)

Saturday, February 25th

TIMOTHY CARDINAL DOLAN

On Saturday, February 25th, in celebration of the Creation of Timothy Cardinal Dolan, the Cardinal will hold multiple prayer and receptions consisting of two groups of twenty three hundred guests. These events will take place throughout the day, and in different locations.

Scheduled Itinerary:

1030 – 1100: Mid-Morning Prayer

1100 – 1400: Reception at the Sheraton Hotel located @ 811 7th Avenue (between 52nd & 53rd Streets)

1530 – 1545: Procession of Bishops to front of Church (weather permitting)

1600 – 1715; Afternoon Mass

1800 – 2100: Dinner @ Mutual of America located @ 320 Park Avenue (between 50th & 51st Streets)

Motorists should expect delays in these areas and may benefit from using alternate routes around these areas.

HOLLAND TUNNEL WEEKEND SINGLE TUBE CLOSURE

The Holland Tunnel will completely close one tunnel for consecutive weekends. The first weekend’s South Tunnel closure is eastbound to New York, and the second weekend’s North Tunnel closure is westbound to New Jersey. During these closures, traffic will be diverted to other crossings. Closure times are listed below. These tunnels are necessary to facilitate roadway resurfacing.

NY bound South Tunnel:

Saturday, February 25th - 0100 x 0800

Sunday, February 26th - 0100 x 0800 

NJ bound North Tunnel

Saturday, March 3rd - 0100 x 0800

Sunday, March 4th - 0100 x 0800

Saturday & Sunday, Feb 25th & 26th

BROADWAY BETWEEN JOHN & FULTON STREETS

This street is subject to six 15 – minute closures between 0700 x 1900 for delivery of materials

BROOKLYN

 Friday February 24th

BROOKLYN BATTERY TUNNEL - WEEKEND TUBE CLOSURES CANCELED

The next two scheduled weekend closures of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel have been canceled, due to the early completion of the electrical work by the contractor.  Both tubes will be open and remaining work will be scheduled at a later date. This project of replacing outdated switchgear and electrical feeders is expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
