Mega Book Sale Previews Tonight, Family Art Day Set for Sunday

It's 5 things you need to know Friday.

1. Town offices closed Friday

If you need to take care of any town business today, it will have to wait until Monday. The offices are closed for records management. Offices will re-open Monday morning at 8:30 a.m.

2. Thunder Ridge happenings

About a half-hour north of Bedford/Katonah is Thunder Ridge, a local skiing mecca during the winter months. But this weekend and next it hosts "Haunting on the Hill"—a Haunted Village & Hayride—starting at 7:00pm. It's $18 per person, no reservations necessary. There's a daytime Haunted House for the little ghoulies from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

For $25, you can get the first crack at the 30,000 books, CDs, games, DVDs and sheet music offered at this year's KVL book sale. Donations were accepted from Feb. through July of this year, and director Van Kozelka assures us there is a wide range of genres—something for everyone. The preview starts at 6 p.m. and goes til 10 p.m. - no signup necessary. Sale hours are Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday & Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Prices range from 75 cents to $75.

4. Family Art Day:

Illustrators featured in the Katonah Museum of Art exhibition Storied City: New York in Picture Book Art will sign books, create live drawings, and talk about New York City and their careers. From 12:00 - 5:00 there will be ongoing interactive art activities and there is also a schedule of illustrators as follows: 

12:30: Eric Velasquez (Grandma's Records), Neil Waldman (The Starry Night) 

1:30    Jerry Pinkney (The Little Match Girl), Amy Schwartz (A Teeny Tiny Baby)

2:30    Donald Crews (Harbor), Nina Crews (The Neighborhood Mother Goose)

3:30    Yumi Heo (One Sunday Morning), Boris Kulikov (The Castle on Hester Street)
