Updated: After the Storm: Power, Roads, Trick-or-Treating

Here's what you need to know post-storm.

Here's a quick run-down of where things stand, as of Monday afternoon at 1 p.m.

 

Halloween

The Katonah-Lewisboro school district and the town of Lewisboro have recommended postponing trick or treating. The Bedford Village Halloween Parade has been cancelled and at this time there is no information on rescheduling. Bedford Hills Library will be holding their Halloween Parade on Wednesday, November 2nd at 4pm.

Bedford Supervisor Lee Roberts has issued a statement urging parents to keep their children in tonight due to the dangerous road conditions. Many roads and sidewalks have downed electrical wires and trees.

Metro North

Regular Monday service will be provided between Southeast and Grand Central Terminal on the Harlem Line. Customers may experience delays and cancelations due to residual effects of the storm. Some areas at stations may still be slippery, please use caution when entering and exiting trains, on platforms and staircases.

The commuter parking lot 1 closed—permit holders are to use LOT 3 in Katonah on Mon. Oct. 31.

  Bedford Police sent out a Nixle alert asking residents to stay off roads because of downed power lines and hazardous driving conditions with trees heavy with snow. These roads were reported closed by the town:

Shelter, dry ice available

The Bedford Hills Community House on the corner of Church Street and Main Street is open with coffee and outlets for charging phones and computers.

Dry ice and bottled water is available at the town house in Bedford. The building department had already made three trips before noon to NYSEG's Brewster division, returning with 100 bags of dry ice each time.

Officials are requesting that locals take only two bags given limited supplies. Bottled water and a faucet to fill containers will also be available at the town house.

Where to seek warmth, shelter? Visit Katonah Library from 10 – 6pm  or Bedford Hills Library from 10 – 5pm. Wi-Fi connection is available as well as heat and power sources to charge your laptop or cell phones.

The Bedford Hills Community House is open and will continue to be open for as long as needed. Overnight shelter is available. Please come to warm up and have a cup of coffee and recharge. Please note there is no internet access or TV available at this facility.

Power outages

To keep emergency lines open, the town requests locals to contact power companies directly to report power outages and not to the local police department.

As of Monday at 1 p.m. NYSEG spokesman Jim Salmon said power should be restored fully to the area by Friday.

NYSEG reports 29,216 customers without power. Broken down by town, it looks like this:

Bedford:  1,837

Beford Hills: 1,786

Bedford Village: 1

Katonah: 3,618

Power restorations will be a multi-day effort, according to NYSEG.
