Bedford to Talk Cleanup Days

The event is listed on the agenda for tonight's town board meeting.

This year's spring cleanup days are slated for May 2, 3 and 4, but rising refuse removal costs and a town-wide carting discussion could have an impact on the event's continuation.

That's according to this letter from Kevin Winn, Bedford's commissioner of public works. The event—which drew tons of local folks last year and coincided with the Bedford Village Chowder and Marching Club tag sale—is on the agenda for tonight's town board meeting.

"The total revenue from the event in 2012 was $8,346, and total expense was $33,390," Winn writes to town officials. "The event has the additional benefit of roadside garbage cleanup, but the costs far outweigh the revenue."
