Bedford Police Arrest Two in DWI Crackdown

This information was provided by the Bedford police department and does not indicate a conviction.

A Katonah resident and a Stamford, CT resident were arrested last week during a Bedford police grant-funded DWI patrol.

"We were able to put two extra officers out last week, which resulted in two arrests," said Jeff Dickan, police lieutenant. "We were happy to access the state funds in these financially stressed times to get drivers who make poor choices off the road."

The first arrest occurred at 2:12 a.m. on Oct. 29 after police stopped Elizabeth Schultz, 49, of Katonah, on Bedford Road near Orchard Lane. Police said she failed to lower her high beam lights. During their interview police said they noticed Schultz had bloodshot eyes and was unsteady on her feet. She refused a breathalyzer test and failed field sobriety tests. She was charged with DWI and released without bail pending a return to town court.

The second arrest took place at 3 a.m. on Oct. 29. Police said they stopped Carla Ledesma, 27, of Stamford, after they observed her car crossing over the double yellow lines and shoulder of the road on Jay Street.

During their interview of a Halloween-costumed Ledesma and other passengers in her car, Ledesma admitted to having two drinks. Police asked her to step out of the car, which they said smelled strongly of alcohol. She took a breathalyzer test and was allegedly found to have .13 BAC. She was charged with DWI over .08 BAC and improper lane use, and released on $100 bail pending an appearance in town court.
