Bedford Woman Charged With DWI

Michele Chernis was arrested Saturday night after police observed her allegedly driving erratically on Guard Hill Road in Bedford.

Police responded to a call from a resident in Bedford who was following a 2012 Jeep Wrangler shortly after 11 p.m. The caller said the driver of the Jeep pulled over to let them pass and after they did, they kept an eye on the car, which they said drove out of its lane several times. 

Police located the car on Guard Hill near the I-684 overpass. Officers identified the driver as Chernis, 49, of Bedford Hills, and observed a smell of alcohol on her breath and red watery eyes. Police administered field sobriety tests, which she failed.

Chernis was brought to police headquarters and took a chemical test which revealed a .12 BAC. She was arrested and charged with DWI. She was released without bail pending a return to Bedford town court.
