Officers with the Bedford Police Department arrested Ira M. Katz at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday, Lt. Jeffrey Dickan told Patch.

He entered the Saw Mill River Parkway and exited a short time later onto Haines Road, where again, he was allegedly speeding at about 50 mph in a 30-mph zone.

Police stopped Katz and noticed the smell of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, along with glassy eyes, Dickan said. The defendant reportedly failed field sobriety tests and refused to submit to a breath test.
Katz is facing a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated, as well as three violations. He was released pending a March 7 appearance in Bedford Justice Court.
