Election Re-Cap, Sex Registry Talk Draws Crowd

1. Greenwich Orchids holds grand opening in Bedford Hills

Due to a very close election in the race for Supreme Court Justice, 9th Judicial district, voting machines were impounded county-wide and taken to a regional location to be opened and counted over the coming weeks. However, memory cards from the voting machines were to be read Monday tonight bringing an unofficial count for the Harckham/Michaelis race to light Thursday morning.
In addition, Luke Vander Linden said he called his opponents in the town board race, David Gabrielson and Chris Burdick, to congratulate them on their victory. Though the votes were not all counted he said it was unlikely he would gain a significant lead to change the outcome. We'll be updating both of those stories today.

3. One month left for essay contest with cash prizes
Local students can win up to $1,000 in a National Essay Competition focused on the constitution. The top three student winners from each of five geographical regions will be awarded cash prizes of $1,000 (First Place), $500 (Second Place), and $250 (Third Place). Teacher sponsors of each student winner will also receive a cash prize of $100. New York students will participate in the North Eastern Region.
4. Standing room only at meeting on sex offender registry
Over 100 locals attended a two and a half hour meeting Wednesday night to hear from Fred Green, head of the Westchester County District Attorney's sex crimes unit. He gave a presentation on Megan's Law and took questions from the audience, mostly made up of parents living in the vicinity of a who recently re-located to the area.
