Employee Accused of Forging $10,600 in Checks

A 23-year-old Brooklyn man was arrested after his Katonah employer found that he had stolen $10,600 in forged checks, said.

The owners of American Image, an art production company with offices in Katonah and New York City, phoned police on Feb. 9 after they found eight cancelled checks made out to Alex Berkman—whom they employed as a production artist—written between August 2011 and Febrary 2012.

Officers arrived to their offices on Goldens Bridge Road at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 9 and arrested Berkman, who admitted to writing the checks.

Berkman was charged with third-degree grand larceny and eight counts of second-degree forgery, felonies. He was remanded to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of bail set at $11,000.
