Updated: Fire Destroys K-L School Board Member's Home

The home of Dr. Peter Treyz was engulfed in flames Tuesday afternoon.

A fire that broke out early Tuesday afternoon on Twin Lakes Road on South Salem burned through the roof and caused extensive damage to the property, which is owned by Katonah-Lewisboro school board member, Dr. Peter Treyz.

The blaze was first reported around 1:30 p.m. and at 2 a.m. this morning, firefighters were still at the scene extinguishing hot spots, according to South Salem Fire Chief, Andrew Llewellyn.

"The house was a total loss after many attempts at an interior attack," he told Patch.

The blaze took several hours to get under control because of water supply issues, according to the Lewisboro Ledger. Tankers on the scene attempted to draw water from nearby Oscaleta Lake and windy conditions compounded the firefighter's battle.

Treyz was inside the home with his wife when the fire started, apparently in an upstairs bathroom. Both escaped uninjured, the Journal News reported.

It was the second time their home burned on that property, according to the story—a previous fire destroyed their first home in 1981.

Fire departments from several neighboring towns responded to help at the scene or provide backup to the The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Treyz is as a school board member.
