Grandson Charged in Jewelry Theft

A 19-year-old South Salem man was arrested on Oct. 18 and charged with third-degree grand larceny and petty larceny after he allegedly removed $5,000 in jewelry from his grandmother's home, said Bedford police. 

The relative called police and said several pieces of jewelry including a watch, necklace, earrings and a bracelet were taken from her Narrows Road home between Sept. 15 and Sept. 30.

The youth was also accused of stealing checks from another family member and attempting to cash over $300. He was brought to police headquarters on Oct. 18 and admitted the the thefts, police said. He was held $2,500 bail pending a return to town court.

Katonah man charged with DWI

Richard Sposato, 21, was arrested on Oct. 20 and charged with driving while impaired by drugs. Bedford police said they observed him swerving in his car on Bedford Road near Cherry Street at 8:10 p.m. and initiated a traffic stop. Sposato allegedly had slurred speech and admitted to smoking marijuana earlier that day. He failed field sobriety tests. He was released without bail pending an appearance in Bedford town court.

Fox Lane student charged with marijuana possession

A 16-year-old high school student, a Mt. Kisco resident, was charged with marijuana possession on Oct. 25 after a school security monitor heard that he may have been selling it in school. The school's dean of students confronted the student, according to police, and a search of the student revealed he was in possession of four small bags of marijuana.

Library theft possibly linked to suspicious couple at Bedford Community Church

Staff at the Bedford Free Library reported that $75 was removed from a purse located in the library on Oct. 24. The theft occurred sometime between 1:30 p.m. and 1:55 p.m., when a couple described as white male and female in their early 40s - 50s was in the library. The staffer said the couple had split up and one of them had occupied her attention while the alleged theft took place.

Bedford police received a report of a similarly described couple entering the Bedford Community Church earlier that morning. A church representative called police on Oct. 25 to report that the couple had come in the day before to ask questions and permission to take photos.

Police are investigating the two incidents which may be linked.
