Katonah-Lewisboro Schools to Reopen Friday on Two-Hour Delay

Power was fully restored Thursday and roads are cleared for buses.

Announcement per K-L schools:

The Katonah-Lewisboro School District will reopen on Friday, November 4, with a two-hour delayed start for students. Staff is to report at regular time. While schools will be open, we are still resolving some outstanding telecommunication issues and will provide an update later this evening. Power was restored to the last of our school buildings during the morning hours of November 3rd, and as of this afternoon, we confirmed that all transportation routes are now clear and safely passable. Given that there have been downed wires in the area, it is best to be cautious and allow extra time for arrival as an added safety measure.

“I want to thank our parents, students, and staff for exhibiting a great deal of patience as we worked through this major issue,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Kreutzer. “We were obviously in close contact with all of the appropriate parties throughout. Unfortunately, the extraordinary damage on the routes of our large transportation network, combined with the lack of power restoration at all schools, forced school to be cancelled for the fourth day. But we now feel whole again are looking forward to welcoming everyone back.”

Dr. Kreutzer and the Board of Education are thankful for the efforts of everyone involved in the storm response, including Town, County, and State workers, utility workers, elected officials, and the district’s own buildings and grounds and custodial staff.

The district has four Weather Reserve Days built into our calendar for the 2011-2012 school year. The Board and Administration will discuss calendar weather make-up days in the future and will inform parents as more information becomes available.
