Letter to the Editor: Hayworth Wrong on Washington Gridlock

Bedford Hills resident Len Martello sounds off. What's your take?

Dear Editor:

I just reviewed the weekly GOP/Tea Party address Congresswoman Nan Hayworth gave today, which is available on her congressional website. Here's a response:

I could not disagree with your distorted perception of the gridlock in Washington more. Instead of blaming the President and Senate (including our own hard-working Senators Gillibrand and Schumer), you need to clearly examine your actions and realize that it is the extreme Tea Party faction of the GOP, with which you align yourself that has caused the maddening congressional gridlock.

As a constituent, I am deeply disappointed in you for 1) representing the working families of NY-19 so poorly, and 2) serving as a mouthpiece for the GOP House leadership's failure to legislate. By the way, a drop in unemployment to 8.5% (from 10.6%) with 200,000 jobs created last month is quite impressive compared to the hemorrhaging of 400,000+ jobs monthly during the last 5 months of the GW Bush presidency.

You have obviously not been successful in reflecting upon the damage you are doing to NY-19 and America, despite the constant outcry from your constituents for a less rigid ideology and a greater spirit of cooperation.
