Letter to the Editor: Nan Hayworth Understands District

Fox Lane student Jackson Kushner writes in support of Nan Hayworth.

Dear Editor,

The primaries are over, and the between incumbent Nan Hayworth of Bedford and Sean Maloney of Manhattan is heating up. On the one hand, we have an incumbent that has lived in our community for twenty four years; on the other, we have a career candidate that’s never once resided in the district that he hopes to represent.

Since she was elected in 2010, Nan has voted for two budgets that would cut spending, address our historic deficits, and save entitlement programs like Medicare and Social Security for my generation. She pushed for bipartisan collaboration on the payroll tax bill, urging fellow representatives to choose responsibility and accountability over a quick-fix, short-term solution.

Nan has voted for policies that would create jobs in the Hudson Valley because she, unlike her opponent, understands our district. I will be entrusting my vote in 2012—the first in my life—to Nan Hayworth. Representation is about community, and elections are about trust. Nan has taken care of our community for a quarter of a century, as a medical doctor and as our representative in Congress, and she has earned my trust.

Sincerely,
