Local Girls Place in Diving Nationals

Elodie and Ines Nix both took top-five places in the AAU National Championships in North Carolina.

London isn't the only place divers are going for the gold.

Elodie and Ines Nix both took home medals from the 2012 Amateur Athletic Union National Championships held last week in North Carolina.

According to their mother, Claire LaBrunerie, Elodie, 10, and Ines Nix, 8, returned Sunday from the diving competition, pleased with their results.

They competed for two days—both of which included a preliminary round in the morning during which they had to make the cut to qualify for the evening diving finals.

During Thursday's 11 and under three-meter event, Elodie took fifth place; Ines took fourth place in the one-meter 9 and under one-meter event. They continued their high marks among the field of national divers with Elodie taking fourth place in the 11 and under one-meter competition and Ines taking a fourth in the 9-under three-meter competition.

Both girls dive for Coach Mike Darland on High Dive Champions in Purchase each winter and during the summer, they dive for Katonah Swim and Dive Coach Kate Hallex.

They previously attended Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, CT, and this year plan to attendl as third and fifth graders.
