Reminder: Town Offices Closed Friday

Employees will also catch up on cleaning, filing and organizing.

All Bedford town offices will be closed Friday (March 1) for records management.

"Records Management Day is when we review all of our 'paper' records and based on the New York State records retention schedule, either box up and store the files in our records center or destroy them," Town Clerk Lisbeth "Boo" Fumagalli said. "We maintain records of everything that has been destroyed and mark our boxes carefully with the date they can be destroyed."

Next week, Westchester County's shred truck will pick up the records that need destroying, Fumagalli said, adding that the service is free.

The day—which also gives employees an opportunity to catch up on cleaning, filing and organizing—is an important practice for officials.

"For many years the town did not do records management on a regular basis and when I came here we had boxes all over the place," she told Patch. "Since then we have built a records center and have organized the process, but it is imperative that it be done each year to stay on top of it."
