Search for Fraud Suspect Leads to High-Speed Police Chase

What started as an attempted traffic stop by the Bedford police of a man who matched the description of an individual suspected of fraud ended in a high-speed police chase and the arrest of a New Rochelle resident in the woods near Route 100 in Somers.
At 2:24 p.m. on Friday, representatives of in Katonah reported to police that a man who fraudulently withdrew $4,500 from the bank on Thursday had returned to make another withdrawal. Before Bedford police arrived, the man left the bank.
Raynard Hines, 32, of New Rochelle, was traveling northbound on Katonah Avenue when police detectives, who had received a description of the fraud suspect, attempted to pull him over. Hines took off, passing another police vehicle and striking a parked car on The Parkway before veering right onto Woodsbridge Road in Katonah.

Police estimate he was traveling at approximately 100 miles per hour.
After losing sight of their suspect, Bedford police alerted New York State troopers to the speeding driver, who was then spotted near the intersection of Routes 35 and 100 in Somers. Hines abandoned his car and attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by state police and brought to Bedford police headquarters.

Hines, who was later found not to be involved in the bank fraud, was arrested and arraigned by Judge Quaranta. He was charged with unsafe passing, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a car, failure to stop, reckless driving and driving at an unreasonable speed. Hines was released on $2,000 bail and is due back in Bedford court this week.
Police are still looking for the fraud suspect who is described as a black male in his 20s, slim build and approximately 5'11". He was last seen walking north on Katonah Avenue from the bank.
