1. Tax assistance at

Tax season is upon us and those who need help can turn to the KVL. Volunteers from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) will be on hand at the Katonah Village Library every Monday and Tuesday, from February 6 through April 17th for those that would like help with their taxes. There will be no program when the library is closed on Monday, February 20. Walk-ins are welcome anytime from 10 until 2 p.m.

2. Want to learn more about the Common Core Learning Standards?

You can get an overview at tonight's school board meeting, at 7 p.m., at theater. The agenda states that Drew Patrick, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, will provide an overview of the New York State Common Core Learning Standards, and provide updates on the district’s work to align the math and English language arts curricula to the standards. Included will be a summary of the TriStates Writing visit report from June 2011, a description of our K-5 math program selection process, and an update on our literacy curriculum pilot of the Journeys program in grades 1-5. 3. Are you ready for the summer?

We're not—yet. But we are ready to help you with your camp decisions. We have created Patch camp directories that will be on the site tomorrow, providing a thumbnail sketch of local and sleepaway camps. Stop by tomorrow—and everyday, for local and news-you-can-use.

5. Zoning Board to hear request from Rippowam Cisqua

The town's zoning board of appeals meets tonight and is expected to hear a request from the for a special permit to permit the temporary use and operation of a summer camp.
