Kennedy Students Take a Stand Against Bullying
Motivational speaker Mark Black taught students how to stop bullying.
Kennedy High School students were recently given a unique view on bullying and how to stand up to bullies during a presentation called “Stand Tall” from motivational speaker Mark Black.
The program, which was co-sponsored by the student government, PTA and alumni association, focused on giving power to victims and connect bystanders.
Black shared his personal story of struggle and bullying. His presentation emphasized the need to “approach and invoke” anti-bullying culture in the school building. Black also provided training to student leaders.
Student government representatives first heard Black speak at the New York State Council on Leadership and Student Activities conference last year.
“When the student government representatives heard Mark speak last year, they were immediately moved and touched by his message,” Brad Seidman, co-adviser for the student government said. "The student leaders felt it was important that their classmates hear this message of accepting others, ignoring bullies and standing up for yourself."
