8 Drunk Drivers Arrested By Sheriff's Office Last Weekend

Suffolk County Sheriff's Office deputies made 9 DWI over the weekend, including 1 aggravated DWI, according to Sheriff Errol D. Toulon.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office arrested eight impaired drivers for driving while intoxicated over the weekend, officials announced Tuesday.

One of these drivers was charged with aggravated DWI after found to be swerving over lanes and registering three times over the legal alcohol limit, officials said.

In a statement, the sheriff's office said that as part of ongoing DWI enforcement, deputies are always out patrolling for those who are making poor choices when it comes to driving home. Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. has increased DWI enforcement and has taken to social media to remind residents, young and old, to drink responsibly and have a designated driver or call for a ride if they have been drinking.

"I commend my staff for their hard work in safely removing these impaired and dangerous drivers from our streets so residents who drive responsibly can arrive home safe," Toulon said.

Friday, June 20: A Deputy Sheriff pulled over Darwin Perez Donis, 31, of Bellport, after his 2017 Chevrolet Malibu was observed swerving across lane markings and continuing forward on a turning lane into an oncoming turning lane at Second Avenue and American Boulevard in the Town of Islip, officials said.

Upon interviewing the driver, it was observed that his speech was slurred, his eyes were bloodshot, his movements were unsteady and there was a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath, officials said. He submitted to a chemical breath test resulting in a .24 BAC and was arrested for an Aggravated DWI, officials said.

Friday, June 20: A deputy sheriff pulled over Ingrid Centeno, 55, of Brentwood, on eastbound Sunrise Highway west of Exit 48, Town of Islip, for failure to maintain lane, officials said. According to the sheriff's office, she demonstrated clues of being intoxicated during standardized field sobriety tests. She was arrested for DWI and refused to consent to a breath test, officials said.

Friday, June 20: A deputy sheriff pulled over Zephyr T. Osit, 18, of Holbrook, at Patchogue Holbrook Road and Walnut Street in the Town of Brookhaven for speeding 15 miles over legal speed limit, officials said. He was arrested for DWI, consented to a breath test and registered a BAC of .09, officials said.

Friday, June 20: Deputy sheriffs pulled over Louis A. Montanaro, 36, of Shirley, on eastbound Sunrise Highway West by Exit 61 for hitting a speed limit sign and swerving between lanes without signaling, officials said. The driver’s vehicle came to a complete stop and made a U-turn to go westbound in the eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway, officials said. He was found to be impaired by a drug and arrested for DWI, officials said.

Saturday, June 21: A deputy sheriff stopped Rigoverto Diaz, 25, of Mastic, on westbound Sunrise Highway by Exit 60 for failure to maintain lane, officials said. He said he had two drinks earlier in the morning, was arrested for DWI, consented to a breath test and registered a BAC of .09, officials said.

Saturday, June 21: Deputy sheriffs stopped Jarlen Suero Hernandez, 18, of Patchogue, at Bay Avenue and Montauk Highway at Town of Brookhaven for an unsafe right-hand turn, failure to maintain lane and speeding, officials said. The driver was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for DWI, consented to a breath test and registered a BAC of .08, officials said.

Sunday, June 22: A deputy sheriff stopped Luis Criollo Mejia, 34, of Shirley, at eastbound Montauk Highway west of Station Road at Town of Brookhaven for failure to maintain lane, not following a traffic control device and speeding, officials said. He was arrested for DWI, consented to a breath test and registered a BAC of .13, officials said.

Sunday, June 22: A deputy sheriff stopped Omar Cabrera Maldonado, 37, of Medford, at eastbound Woodside Avenue near Sills Road at Hamlet of Medford for failure to maintain lane, failure to come to a complete stop before making a turn on red and speeding, officials said. He was arrested for DWI, consented to a breath test and registered a BAC of .10, officials said.
