Another Teen Arrested In Brentwood Car Theft Involving 3-Year-Old: Police

A second 17-year-old was arrested and charged after a running vehicle was stolen from a Brentwood driveway.

BRENTWOOD, NY — Suffolk County police said a second teen has been arrested in connection with a vehicle that was stolen with a 3-year-old child inside in Brentwood last week.

Third Squad detectives arrested a 17-year-old Central Islip male on Dec. 14 and charged him with third-degree grand larceny, endangering the welfare of a child, and second reckless endangerment, according to police.

The teen, whose name is being withheld because of his age, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in the Youth Part of First District Court in Central Islip, police said.

Police said Third Precinct officers responded to Whipple Street in Brentwood at approximately 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, after a 2014 Honda Civic, which had been left running with a 3-year-old child inside, was stolen from a driveway.

Following an extensive search, officers located the vehicle and the child on Bretton Road in Hauppauge at approximately 5 a.m., police said. The child was unharmed and was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for evaluation as a precaution.

A 17-year-old Central Islip male had previously been charged with grand larceny in the third degree in connection with the incident, police said.
