Fire Engulfs Home On Long Island: Police
Suffolk police say the Central Islip Fire Department extinguished a raging house fire that hospitalized one person on Thursday evening.
CENTRAL ISLIP, NY — Firefighters extinguished a blaze that broke out at a Central Isip home on Thursday evening, Suffolk County police told Patch.
Firefighters from the Central Islip Fire Department responded to a fire at 28 Birchgrove Drive around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, police said.
Upon arrival, crews found flames coming from the front of the house and the fire raging in the basement and on the first and second floors, officials said.

Police said firefighters searched for an occupant they found in the basement and transported him to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Mutual aid was provided by East Brentwood, Brentwood, Hauppauge, Islip Terrace, East Islip, Islip, and Lakeland fire departments. The Islip Fire Coordinators, fire marshals, and the Red Cross were also on the scene.

Police said no injuries were reported.
