Arson Squad Investigates Islip Terrace Fire That Hospitalized 2: PD

Suffolk County Police Arson Squad detectives are investigating a residential fire in Islip Terrace, according to police.

ISLIP, NY—Suffolk County Police Arson Squad detectives are investigating a residential fire in Islip Terrace that sent two people to an area hospital Thursday morning, police told Patch.

According to a post on Islip Terrace Fire Department's (ITFD) Facebook page, the fire department "was activated" for a residential structure fire on Lorigan Street on May 9 at around 9:30 a.m.

The fire department said it took "a little over an hour" for firefighters to get the blaze under control.

According to ITFD, the Town of Islip HAZMAT TEAM was brought to the scene because of "compromised propane tanks."

Mutual aid was provided by Islip, Central Islip, East Brentwood, and West Sayville fire departments. Additionally, the Exchange Ambulance of the Islips and Brentwood Legion Ambulance Service provided EMS coverage at the scene. At the same time, the Great River Fire Department was called to standby in ITFD's headquarters.

Islip Terrace Fire Department was not immediately available for comment.
