2 Women Pulled From Burning Central Islip Home By Suffolk Police, Firefighters

Both residents, along with rescuers, were treated for smoke inhalation after dramatic daytime blaze.

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — Six Suffolk County police officers and two Central Islip firefighters are being credited with saving two women trapped inside a burning home Thursday morning.

Officers and fire crews responded to 2A Dietz St. at about 11:30 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a fire, officials said. Upon arrival, responders found two women unable to escape the lower level of the home.

Officers Alisa Cipolla, Alec Parrotta, Brett Platt, Jonathan Morgan, Lillian Arlene Collins, Sergio Rivera and firefighters Steve Dellamar and Dennis Solares entered the home and pulled the women to safety, police said.

The women, Grace Francis, 78, and Michelina Kirton, 48, both residents of the home, were transported to area hospitals for treatment, police said. The officers and firefighters were also taken to local hospitals for smoke inhalation.

Detectives from the department's arson section are investigating the cause of the fire.
