Officials Determine Cause of Eastchester Fire

Investigators say that an electrical problem is to blame for a fire that ripped through an Eastchester home. The fire at 132 Lakeshore Drive started around 4 a.m. on June 26. The smoke detector in the home alerted everyone in the house to the fire, and everyone got out safely.

Eastchester Fire Chief Michael Grogan says the Westcehster County Cause and Origin Team assisted his department in figuring out what sparked the blaze. Grogan says the underground power line into the home is what caused the fire.

"It appears to have shorted out where it enters the building," said Grogan. "Purely accidental… Over the years the wire may have gotten damp."

It took the Eastchester Fire Department about 30 minutes to put out the blaze. No firefighters were hurt while battling the flames. The basement and part of the home's ground floor was damaged by the fire.

"It was difficult to locate the fire, which was actually confined from the basement area and the ceiling of the first floor" said Grogan.
