• Town board approves plans for over-55 community (trihamletnews.com) — Brookhaven Town Board has approved zoning and site plans for a 64-unit, 55-and-over rental community in East Patchogue, including some affordable units and housing for seniors with intellectual disabilities. The developer will deed about 4.5 acres to the Town of Brookhaven to preserve wetlands and buffer nearby homes, though many neighbors remain worried about added traffic and density. 
• William Floyd, sole Long Islander to sign the Declaration of Independence, gets a day named after him (newsday.com) — Suffolk County has officially designated December 17 as “William Floyd Day,” honoring the Brookhaven Town landowner who was Long Island’s only signer of the Declaration of Independence. Officials highlighted Floyd’s patriotism and long public service, while some local activists questioned celebrating a historical figure who owned slaves and helped colonize the area, urging a fuller telling of Brookhaven’s history.
