BROOKLYN, NY — Five subway stations in Brooklyn are getting a deep clean this year as part of the city’s plan to work on cosmetic upgrades at stations during planned weekend outages.
A spring-cleaning program dubbed "Re-NEW-vation" will sweep through Brooklyn subway stations in the coming weeks, MTA officials announced.
This top-to-bottom scrub-a-dub will be completed on the following stations:

“The Re-NEW-vation Program is key to delivering on our North Star of faster, cleaner, safer service for customers across the transit system,” said NYC Transit President Richard Davey. “We’re not resting on our accomplishments from 2023, customers across the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens can look forward to better station environments as we work to improve 50 more stations in 2024.”
Since 2023, the restoration program has used weekend subway closures for track maintenance to execute comprehensive cleanings, overhauls, and renovations of subway stations. MTA employees have scrubbed, scraped, repainted, retiled and renovated stations from top to bottom, according to the MTA.

By utilizing already planned weekend service outages to perform upgrades, repairs and a deep clean, the agency says they can deliver "enhancement" within a 55-hour window.
The project aims to increase customer satisfaction by 10 percent by June 2024.
According to MTA officials, subway customers cited station cleanliness as one of the top attributes of increased satisfaction.
Since the start of the Re-NEW-vation program, MTA workers have:
- 1.6 million sq. ft. of repainted surfaces
- 17,030 new light fixtures installed
- 91,960 sq. ft. of wall tile replaced
- 4,142 sq. ft. of floor tiles replaced
- 918 metal signs replaced
- 41 new decals installed
- 45 outdated, damaged, or unnecessary signs and maps removed
“Improving customer satisfaction is a top priority and the Re-NEW-vation Program has been proven as a great way to bring tangible enhancements to customers where they are,” said MTA Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Rieara. “With this new list of Re-NEW-vations, customers can look forward to cleaner and brighter stations in their neighborhoods.”
Officials stated that 63 stations have been upgraded since the program's inception, including 20 in Brooklyn.
