BROOKLYN, NY — Unofficial election results have been tallied, and Assembly District 46's Republican incumbent Alec Brook-Krasny is leading Democratic challenger Chris McCreight by nearly 2,000 more votes.

Early tallies showed high voter turnout across New York City. More than 685,610 Brooklynites had checked in to vote by 6 p.m. Tuesday, including mail-in ballots, according to New York City's Board of Elections.

With 95.08 percent of votes counted as of Wednesday morning, Brook-Krasny holds the lead with 52.40 percent of the vote, or 19,474 votes, according to the city's Board of Elections unofficial vote totals.

McCreight trailed behind with about 47.22 percent of the vote, or 17,548 votes, and conceded the race to Brook-Krasny on Tuesday night.

Once all the votes are added by the New York City Board of Elections, the official final totals will be announced. Until then, these are unofficial results.

When Brook-Krasny was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 2007, he was a registered Democrat with conservative leanings. He left public office for a job at a medical company in 2015 and then, in 2022, campaigned again for Assembly, but this time as a Republican, flipping a blue seat red.

“No matter what party you belong to, it's really the local issues that have nothing to do with party affiliation,” Brook-Krasny told City & State.

McCreight has been a tough competitor. McCreight, though he is a first-time candidate, is the chief of staff for Democratic City Councilmember Justin Brannan.

"Now more than ever, we must vote our values and support candidates who practice what they preach," McCreight said on his Instagram two days before the election.

Assembly District 46 represents parts of South Brooklyn, including Coney Island, Seagate, part of Brighton Beach, Fort Hamilton, Dyker Heights and Bay Ridge.
