BROOKLYN, NY — A baby died after being burned by a leaky furnace at a Midwood home Friday morning, police said.

The 11-month-old was found unconscious inside a bedroom Friday about 6:00 a.m. at a building on East 14th Street near Avenue I, according to the NYPD.

The baby had burns from a furnace that was leaking steam into the room, police said. The baby was rushed to an area hospital but couldn't be saved, police said.

No arrests had been made and police continued to investigate Friday.

The NYPD on Friday requested a Buildings department inspection of the property due to the faulty radiator, city records show.

The building had 57 open violations with the city's Housing and Preservation department as of Friday, most recently from 2020 and dating back to 2010, city records show.
