Elevator Installed At F, G Station In Brooklyn
Long-awaited elevators at Park Slope's 7th Avenue F and G station opened last week, making it Brooklyn's 33rd accessible subway station.

PARK SLOPE, NY — Much-anticipated elevators opened at Park Slope's 7th Avenue station last week, making the station accessible after years of community support.
Three elevators will bring Park Slope straphangers from the street on 7th Avenue and 9th Street down to the station mezzanine, and from the mezzanine to the F and G platforms, authorities announced on Nov 21.
The accessibility improvements were initially promised by August after years of local organizing and rallies as far back as 2016. And, the project was proposed as a participatory budget project during Comptroller Brad Lander's tenure on the city council, according to Council Member Shahana Hanif.

“After years of pushing to install an elevator at the 7 Av F and G station as a Council Member and now as Comptroller, a fully accessible station is now a reality because of the tireless work of advocates," Lander said.
The elevators are equipped with cameras, heat detectors, fire alarms and emergency communication systems, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. A new boarding area and tactile strips were also installed on the platforms.

“For years, many of our neighbors have struggled to access the 7 Av station because of its lack of accessibility," Hanif said. "This elevator is a big win for our district, especially the elderly who live in Park Slope and makeup 10% of the population."

Advocates said Park Slope is still waiting on elevators at the Grand Army Plaza station.
"For Park Slope we still need them desperately at Grand Army Plaza where they should have been completed long ago," said local organizer Rebecca Kostyuchenko in a Facebook post.
The 7th Avenue station is now the 33rd accessible station in Brooklyn. Around Park Slope, accessible stations include: Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr; Eastern Pkwy-Brooklyn Museum; Jay St-MetroTech; and Prospect Park.
