Winter is coming.

NEW YORK CITY — A cold snap and storm during the first week of December could bring snow showers and a wintry mix to the city, forecasters say.

According to the National Weather Service, a storm system from the Great Lakes — that has already dumped more than three feet of snow up north — is poised to hit New York City on Wednesday night.

Wednesday will be dry during the day, but at night there will be a 70 percent chance of rain, and then a 40 percent chance of rain or snow showers on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Then, on Saturday, the National Weather Service has forecast a 30 percent chance of snow showers for the city.

"Temperatures run below normal through the week, with highs likely not climbing out of the 30s on Friday and Saturday for most," a National Weather Service forecaster said. "A clipper low will bring rain and snow showers, along with gusty winds to the area Wednesday night through Friday."

Though there are a few chances for rain and snow showers this week in New York City, National Weather Service forecasters say that the actual amount of rain or snow this week will be fairly low, since the storm is expected to be quick-moving and light in moisture.

Due to the storm's light moisture, any accumulation of snow on the ground is unlikely.
