EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN — Assemblymember Nikki Lucas has been declared the winner East New York's 60th District primary race, all but securing her full-term reign in the district, according to NY1.

Lucas — who took office after a special election for the seat in February — received more than 72 percent of the vote with nearly all of precincts reporting, according to unofficial results from the city's Board of Elections. The race was called by NY1 Wednesday morning.

Her opponent Keron Alleyne, who also went up against Lucas in February, held 27 percent of the vote, the preliminary results show.

This year marks the first time since 2009 that someone other than former Assemblymember Charles Barron or his wife, Inez Barron, held the seat in the state legislature. Barron resigned the seat last year to join City Council.

Alleyne had been backed by the Barrons, who he used to work for, while Lucas has positioned herself as a critic of the couple's political dynasty.

When first winning in February — that time with around 78 percent to the vote — Lucas highlighted her campaign as a push for "real change."

"Tonight is the result of what happens when we center real change, build coalitions and demand a just future that includes truly affordable housing, quality public schools and accessible health care for all," she said at the time. "It is my honor to continue to serve the people of this district here, and in Albany."

The assembly races were the only district-level primaries held on June 28 given an ongoing court battle over redistricting maps. Both the congressional and state senate races in New York have been postponed to August 23 due to the redistricting.

Also in eastern Brooklyn, Assemblymember Latrice Walker was declared the winner in District 55, which includes Bed-Stuy, Crown Heights and Brownsville.

In the statewide races, Governor Kathy Hochul cinched the Democratic nominee, according to unofficial results.
